About Edex

What is Edex?

Edex contains a synthetic form of a substance that naturally occurs in the body called prostaglandins. One of the effects of prostaglandins is vasodilation, or the widening of blood vessels. When the blood vessels in the penis are widened, an erection can be more easily achieved. Edex is a more natural alternative to the typical erectile dysfunction medications called PDE5 inhibitors which can have dangerous cardiovascular side effects.

How do I take Edex?

Edex comes in the form of a solution that is to be injected into the penis. An injection device is normally provided. Your doctor and pharmacist will tell you how to properly use this medication. Your doctor will most likely you show you the first time and have you stay in the doctor’s office to make sure you have no negative reactions to the medication, and to make sure the proper dose is prescribed. An erection should occur approximately five to twenty minutes after the injection and should last from thirty to sixty minutes. Do not use Edex more than three times weekly, and wait at least 24 hours between uses.

What if I forget to take a dose of Edex?

Edex should only be taken as needed.

What happens if I overdose on Edex?

Signs of Edex drug overdose include blurred vision, fainting, nausea, persistent pain and an erection that lasts longer than six hours. If you think you or someone you know has overdosed on Edex, get medical attention as soon as possible.

Before using Edex, tell your doctor if:

  • You are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medications, especially those that are prostaglandins (these usually end with -prost or –prostol), anticoagulants or other ED medications.

  • You have kidney, liver or lung disease.

  • You have a history of fainting easily.

  • You have a cancer or other disease that affects blood cells.

What are the possible side effects of taking Edex?

Possible Edex drug side effects include penile discharge, back pain, penile rash, mild pain in the urethra or testicles, and mild pain, itching, warmth, or numb sensation in the penis. If any of these side effects are severe or don’t go away, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Call your doctor immediately or seek medical attention if you experience severe pain, an erection that lasts four hours or more, fainting, trouble urinating, and bruising or swelling at the site of injection. Also call your doctor if you experience swelling, curving or hard nodules in the penis, or if you experience swollen veins in the legs or a rapid heart rate.

How do I store Edex?

Edex comes in the form of cartridges with an injection device. Store cartridges at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep the cartridges and injection device out of reach of children and pets, and keep cartridges out of direct sunlight. Ask your pharmacist about the proper disposal of the injector devices. Make sure used and exposed needles that are discarded are not within reach of small children or pets.
