What is Selzentry?

Selzentry is classified as a CCR5 antagonist, which is a type of entry inhibitor antiretroviral drug. This type of drug prevents the virus from entering healthy cells in the first place by binding to CCR5 receptors on the surface of cells.

How do I take Selzentry?

The dose size of Selzentry you take will depend on the other types of HIV drugs you are taking. Always take the amount your doctor prescribes based on your course of treatment. This medication is usually taken twice daily. Selzentry may be taken with or without food. Try to take your medication at the same times every day to get the most benefit. Do not crush, break or chew the tablets.

What if I forget to take a dose of Selzentry?

If you miss a dose of Selzentry, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it unless 6 hours or less remain until your next dose. In that case, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular regimen.

What happens if I overdose on Selzentry?

Signs of overdose on Selzentry include dizziness or fainting from low blood pressure. Adverse effects may differ depending on what other types of medications you are taking. If you or someone else overdoses on Selzentry, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.

Before taking Selzentry, tell your doctor if:

  • You have low blood pressure

What are the possible side effects of taking Selzentry?

Taking Selzentry may result in side effects such as dizziness, fatigue, cough and mild stomach pain. If any of these side effects are severe, tell your doctor as soon as possible. Tell your doctor right away if you experience signs of an infection, joint pain, persistent muscle pain, numbness or tingling sensations, vision changes, nervousness, bulging eyes, difficulty swallowing or breathing, jaundice, itchy rash, slurred speech and unexplained weight loss.

How do I store Selzentry?

Store Selzentry in an airtight container at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

Warnings

Liver toxicity and severe allergic reactions have been reported with Selzentry. Be sure to tell your doctor if you have ever had jaundice or liver problems and know how to recognize the symptoms of jaundice.
