About Microgestin 1/20

What is Microgestin 1/20?

Microgestin 1/20 is a birth control pill that contains 1mg of norethindrone and .02mg of ethinyl estradiol. Norethindrone is a type of progestin and ethinyl estradiol is a type of estrogen. These two hormones work together to prevent pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation and by thickening cervical mucous to make it more difficult for the sperm to reach the egg. It may also change the uterine lining to make it more difficult for a fertilized egg to attach itself.

How do I take Microgestin 1/20?

One Microgestin 1/20 pill should be taken once daily at the same time every day. These pills can be taken with or without food. Choose a time of day when it is easiest for you to remember to take your pill, and always take the pill at that time. The more consistent you are with your dosing schedule, the less likely you are to get pregnant. Take one pill per day until the pack is gone, then start a new pack. You should get your period while you are taking the last 7 pills in the pack.

What if I forget to take a dose of Microgestin 1/20?

If you forget to take one of your Microgestin 1/20 pills, take the missed pill as soon as you remember, and then continue on your normal schedule. If you miss two pills, take two pills on the day you remember and two the next day. You should use back up contraception for 7 days. If you miss a pill during the last week of the pack, you do not have to take the missed pill. If you ever miss more than two pills in a row, ask your doctor what to do.

What happens if I overdose on Microgestin 1/20?

There have been no reports of serious adverse effects from taking too much Microgestin 1/20. If you are experiencing serious side effects, and you think you are taking too much, talk to your doctor. If someone accidentally ingests a large amount of Microgestin 1/20 pills, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.

Before taking Microgestin 1/20, tell your doctor if:

You are currently taking any other prescription or nonprescription drugs or herbal supplements, such as NSAIDs, steroid drugs, antibiotics, antivirals, blood thinners, HIV drugs, anticonvulsants, any type of hormone therapies, and St. John’s wort or any other medications.

What are the possible side effects of taking Microgestin 1/20?

Side effects from taking Microgestin 1/20 are similar to those of other birth control pills. These include nausea, vomiting, bloating, breast tenderness, spotting and weight changes. These side effects should fade over time. If any of these adverse effects are severe or don’t go away, tell your doctor. If you find breast lumps, miss a period, or experience heavy vaginal bleeding or severe abdominal pain, tell your doctor right away. Know the signs of having a stroke or heart attack, and get medical help immediately if you experience these symptoms.

How do I store Microgestin 1/20?

Store your Microgestin 1/20 pills in a place where it is easiest for you to remember to take them at your scheduled time. Keep the pills at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit, and try to keep them out of reach of children and pets.

Microgestin 1/20 and other hormonal contraceptives can increase your risk of developing a blood clot and having a stroke or heart attack. “I have been able to afford and purchase my prescribed medications for prices much better than using my insurance. I am trying to understand how that is possible. Anyway, I highly recommend”
