About Loestrin FE 1.5/30

What is Loestrin FE 1.5/30?

The combination of ethinyl estradiol and norethindrone contained in Loestrin FE 1.5/30 changes the behaviors of the female reproductive system. Chiefly, the increase in hormones prevents eggs from being released from the ovaries. It also alters uterine lining and cervical mucus, which makes the journey to fertilization difficult for sperm. Even eggs that manage to be fertilized are largely unable to attach to the uterus. These actions make Loestrin FE 1.5/30 effective as a contraceptive.

How do I take Loestrin FE 1.5/30?

Take the first pill either on the first Sunday after your period begins or on the first day of your period. When starting to use this medication, use a back-up form of birth control such as spermicide or condoms. Take one pill daily with a break of no more than 24 hours. Once your pills run out, begin using your next pack. Make sure you have a filled prescription ready at all times, and don’t skip the 7 “reminder” pills included in each pack. They will keep you in the habit of taking a daily pill once your period begins.

What if I forget to take a dose of Loestrin FE 1.5/30?

If you’ve missed only one pill, take two once you remember. If you miss two pills in the first two weeks, take two pills a day two days in a row. If you miss two pills in the third week, throw away what remains in the pack and start a new pack on the same day. If you miss three pills in any week, throw out the remainder of that pack and start a new pack on the same day, unless you started on Sunday. If you’re a Sunday starter, keep taking pills until Sunday, then throw out the remainder and start a new pack that day.

What happens if I overdose on Loestrin FE 1.5/30?

An overdose of contraceptive medication could cause severe or permanent damage to the reproductive system. If you believe you may have overdosed, seek emergency medical assistance or call the Poison Control line at 1-800-222-1222.
