About Baraclude

What is Baraclude?

Baraclude is the brand name for an antiviral drug called entecavir that is used mainly to treat chronic hepatitis B. It works by stopping the replication of the hepatitis B virus.

How do I take Baraclude?

This medication is normally taken once daily on an empty stomach. Take this medication at the same time every day at least two hours before or after a meal. The typical adult dosage is 1mg per day, but follow your doctor’s instructions. Dose may vary by age and condition. Do not stop taking Baraclude until your doctor tells you to do so, even if you feel better.

What if I forget to take a dose of Baraclude?

If you miss a dose of Baraclude, take your missed dose as soon as you remember it. If you forgot a dose but it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular regimen. Do not take two consecutive doses to try to compensate for a missed one.

What happens if I overdose on Baraclude?

There have been no reports on Baraclude overdose. During clinical trials, patients received up to 20mg of entecavir (twenty times the normal dosage) every day for two weeks straight with no adverse events. Overdose is highly unlikely. If someone has excessively overdosed on Baraclude, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 for consultation.

Before taking Baraclude, tell your doctor if:

  • You have HIV or any other viral infections besides hepatitis C.

  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients in entecavir.

  • You have had a liver transplant.

  • You have kidney disease.

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • You are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medications, vitamins or supplements, especially antivirals, antibiotics, antifungals and immunosuppressants.

What are the possible side effects of taking Baraclude?

Possible Baraclude drug side effects include fatigue, headache, dizziness and nausea. If any of these side effects are severe or persistent, report them to your doctor. If you have an allergic reaction to this medication, get medical assistance immediately and tell your doctor.

How do I store Baraclude?

Store Baraclude tablets in an airtight container at a room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep this medication out of direct light and away from children and pets. If you are taking the Baraclude oral solution, use only until the expiration date indicated on the bottle. You must dispose of the medication after the expiration date if it hasn’t been used. Ask your doctor about the proper disposal of any medications.

Warnings

If you have never been tested for HIV, it is best to get an HIV test before starting treatment with Baraclude. Baraclude may cause the HIV virus to develop resistance to other medications, making treatment difficult afterwards.

Brand Names

There are currently no other brand names with the ingredient entecavir on the market, but generic entecavir is available. However, the price is almost the same. To reduce the price of Baraclude or the generic version, check our site for discounts and use them when you fill your prescriptions.
