About Addyi

What is Addyi?

Addyi is a medication used to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder in women. It works differently from medications like Viagra because it acts on neurotransmitters rather than affecting blood flow. It works to increase sexual desire overtime by increasing levels of dopamine and norepinephrine and decreasing levels of serotonin, which can inhibit sexual desire and arousal.

How do I take Addyi?

Addyi pills should be taken once per day at bedtime. The normal dosage is 100mg or one pill per day. Always follow your doctor’s dosing instructions. Symptoms should improve after eight weeks of treatment, or the medication should be discontinued.

What if I forget to take a dose of Addyi?

If you miss a dose of Addyi, skip the missed dose and continue you your regular regimen. Because Addyi can cause dizziness and low blood pressure, it should only be taken at bedtime. Do not take a double dose to try to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose on Addyi?

Addyi overdose may result in exaggerated side effects. If you think you or someone you know has overdosed on Addyi, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim is unresponsive or unconscious, call 911.

Before taking Addyi, tell your doctor if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • You are taking any other prescription or nonprescription drugs, vitamins or supplements, including resveratrol, St. John’s wort, ginkgo, antidepressants, seizure medications, any medications for mental illness, proton pump inhibitors, heart medications, sedatives, sleeping pills, blood pressure drugs, antifungals, antibiotics, HIV medications, antivirals and any other medications.

  • You have low blood pressure.

  • You have a heart condition.

  • You have liver disease.

  • You regularly drink alcohol.

  • You are allergic to any drugs or any of the ingredients in Addyi pills.

What are the possible side effects of taking Addyi?

Possible side effects from taking Addyi include dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, dry mouth and difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. If any of these side effects are severe or don’t go away, tell your doctor as soon as possible. If you experience any unusual or serious side effects report them to your doctor immediately.
