About Tobradex St

This medicine is an antibiotic and corticosteroid combination used to treat certain types of eye inflammation where a bacterial infection exists or may develop.

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. This medicine is only for the eye. Do NOT get it in your nose or mouth. Do not inject it into the eye. SHAKE WELL before each use. TO USE THIS MEDICINE in the eye, first, wash your hands. Tilt your head back. Using your index finger, pull the lower eyelid away from the eye to form a pouch. Drop the medicine into the pouch and gently close your eyes. Immediately use your finger to apply pressure to the inside corner of the eyelid for 1 to 2 minutes. Do not blink. Remove excess medicine around your eye with a clean, dry tissue, being careful not to touch your eye. WASH YOUR HANDS to remove any medicine that may be on them. To prevent germs from contaminating your medicine, DO NOT touch the applicator tip to any surface, including the eye. Keep the container tightly closed. DO NOT WEAR CONTACT LENSES while you are using this medicine. Take care of your contact lenses as directed by the manufacturer. Check with your doctor before you use them. STORE THIS MEDICINE between 36 and 77 degrees F (2 and 25 degrees C). Store upright in the original container, away from heat , moisture, and light. Keep tightly closed. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. USING THIS MEDICINE at the same time each day will help you to remember to use it. TO CLEAR UP YOUR INFECTION COMPLETELY, use this medicine for the full course of treatment. Keep using it even if you feel better in a few days. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include increased tearing; eyelid itching; or redness or swelling of the eye.

Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are using another form of aminoglycoside antibiotic (eg, intravenous). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including thinning of the cornea (the surface of the eye), oozing from the eye, diabetes, glaucoma or increased eye pressure, a history of viral eye infections (eg, herpes simplex), allergies (especially to other aminoglycosides, such as gentamicin), pregnancy, or breast-feeding. TELL YOUR DOCTOR if you have recently had cataract surgery. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a mycobacterial, fungal, or viral (eg, herpes simples, vaccinia, chickenpox) eye infection. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.

SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine include burning or stinging when you first put it in your eye. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience changes in vision; itching or swelling of the eyelid; new or worsening eye pain, redness, swelling, or irritation; or vision loss. AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO THIS MEDICINE IS UNLIKELY, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue.
