About Sivextro

What is Sivextro?

Sivextro is an oxazolidinone antibiotic used to treat acute bacterial skin infections, such as MRSA. It works by inhibiting protein synthesis in certain types of bacteria, killing the bacteria and clearing the infection. It will not cure viral or fungal infections.

How do I take Sivextro?

Sivextro pills can be taken with or without food. The usual course of treatment is one 200mg pill per day for 6 days. Always follow your doctor’s dosing instructions, as your particular type of infection could be different. Take your pills at the same time every day, and always finish the full course of treatment prescribed to you.

What if I forget to take a dose of Sivextro?

If you forget to take a dose of Sivextro, and there are still 8 hours remaining before your next dose, take the missed dose when you remember. It there are 8 hours or less until your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your normal schedule.

What happens if I overdose on Sivextro?

There is limited information available about Sivextro overdose. If you or someone you know has overdosed on Sivextro, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the person is unresponsive or not breathing, call 911.

Before taking Sivextro, tell your doctor if:

  • You are taking any other prescription or nonprescription drugs, including supplements, hormonal contraceptives and other antibiotics.

If you experience blurred vision, visual impairment, elevated heart rate, numbness or tingling sensations, palpitations, or severe diarrhea, tell your doctor immediately.

Store this medication at room temperature and keep it out of light and moisture. Keep Sivextro out of reach of children and pets.

Warnings

Sivextro has not been evaluated for pediatric use. Always take the entire course of antibiotics prescribed to you in order to prevent the development of drug-resistant bacteria.
