About Pacnex

What is Pacnex?

Pacnex is a brand name form of benzoyl peroxide, an antibacterial compound that is commonly prescribed to treat acne. It works by killing bacteria that causes acne. The medication also causes skin to dry and peel so that healthier skin can emerge.

How do I use Pacnex?

Pacnex use will depend on the form prescribed, so follow the instructions on the prescription label carefully. In most cases, you will need to wet your skin first before gently rubbing the topical drug into the affected skin and rinsing thoroughly. Do not change your dosage or application routine without your doctor’s permission, even if you don’t see improvements right away. In most cases, patients begin seeing improvements after 3 weeks of use, with maximum benefits after 8-12 weeks.

What if I forget to use Pacnex?

Apply the missed dose once you remember, unless it’s almost time for your next dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and resume your normal schedule. Applying extra Pacnex will not cause the medicine to work any more quickly and may lead to greater skin irritation.

What happens if I overdose on Pacnex?

It is unlikely that applying Pacnex to your skin will cause an overdose, but swallowing this topical drug may be harmful. If you or someone you know has ingested some of this medicine, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 to find out what to do.

Before using Pacnex, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to benzoyl peroxide or any other medications

  • You are using any other prescription or non-prescription drugs or skin products

  • You are breastfeeding

  • You are pregnant or planning a pregnancy

What are the possible side effects of using Pacnex?

The drying effect of Pacnex may cause mild skin irritation, itching, and peeling for some people. If this irritation lasts a long time or gets worse, tell your doctor. Severe side effects are unlikely, but you should contact your doctor right away if you experience any signs of a serious allergic reaction, including severe dizziness, difficulty breathing, rash, and swelling of the tongue, throat, or face.

How do I store Pacnex?

Follow the storage instructions that come with your prescription. Keep Pacnex at room temperature, away from light and moisture and out of reach of children and pets. Contact your pharmacist for disposal instructions if you no longer need this medication or it has expired.

Warnings

Pacnex can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so always wear sunscreen or protective clothing when you spend time outside. Tell your doctor about any other acne treatments you are using before you start applying Pacnex. Certain other acne drugs, such as dapsone topical, may interact with Pacnex.

Brand Names

Pacnex is only available as a brand name drug. The different formulations are Pacnex HP, Pacnex LP, and Pacnex MX. You can get a FamilyWize coupon for up to 52% off any of these versions, making your acne treatment much more affordable.
