What is Maxalt?

Maxalt is a prescription drug that comes in tablet form to be taken by mouth as directed by your doctor. Maxalt is used to treat symptoms caused by migraines, including severe headaches, sensitivity to light, and nausea.

Maxalt is classified as a serotonin receptor antagonist and it works by narrowing the blood vessels in the brain and reducing substances in the body that cause symptoms of migraine headaches.

How do I use Maxalt?

The recommended starting dose of Maxalt tablets for the acute treatment of migraines in adults is usually 5 mg or 10 mg, and a second dose may be taken two hours after the first dose if symptoms return. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 30 mg in any 24-hour period. Consult with your doctor for specific dosage and use information for Maxalt for the treatment of your condition.

What if I forgot to use a dose of Maxalt?

Maxalt may be taken as needed. If you are on a dosing schedule for this drug, take your missed dose of Maxalt as soon as your remember to take it, unless it is almost time for the next dose. Warnings
