About Jantoven

What is Jantoven?

Jantoven is a brand, anticoagulant drug that comes in tablet form and it is prescribed to prevent blood clots from forming or growing larger in your blood and blood vessels. It is usually prescribed to patients with prosthetic heart valves, certain types of irregular heartbeats, and patients who have a history of heart attack.

Jantoven is also used to treat or prevent pulmonary embolism and venous thrombosis and (a blood clot in the lung) in patients.

Jantoven works by decreasing the blood’s ability to clot.

How do I use Jantoven?

Jantoven tablets are typically prescribed to be taken once per day with food. Consult with your doctor for specific directions for taking Jantoven and follow your carefully doctor’s directions for taking this drug.

What if I forget to use a dose of Jantoven?

Take your missed dose of Jantoven as soon as your remember to take it, unless it is almost time for the next dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dose schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

What happens if I overdose on Jantoven?

In case of overdose, call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) to find out what to do or seek immediate medical attention.

Symptoms of overdose on Jantoven may include:

  • bloody or red, or tarry stool

  • spitting or coughing up blood

  • heavy bleeding with your menstrual period

  • unusual bruising or bleeding

  • pink, red, or dark brown urine

  • unrelenting oozing or bleeding from minor cuts

  • coughing up or vomiting a substance that looks like coffee grounds

  • small, round, flat red spots underneath your skin

Before using Jantoven , tell your doctor if:

  • you are allergic to Jantoven or any other medications

  • you are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications, vitamins, supplements, or herbal products

  • you have or have ever had diabetes

  • you have an infection

  • you have a gastrointestinal illness

  • you have an indwelling catheter

  • you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding

  • If you are having surgery of any kind, let your doctor know that you are taking Jantoven.

Additional precautions:

  • you are allergic to Jantoven or any other medications

  • swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, or eyes or limbs

  • chest pain

  • infection

  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, or flu-like symptoms

  • fatigue

  • loss of appetite

  • pain in the upper right part of the stomach

  • yellowing of the skin or eyes

  • hoarseness

  • skin changes including purplish or darkened skin or ulcers

  • sudden and severe pain or temperature change

  • your toes become painful or dark in color or purple

Contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms:

How do I store Jantoven?

Store this medication tightly closed when not in use. Store it at room temperature and keep away from excess moisture and heat. Keep this medication out of reach of children and away from access by pets. Properly dispose of any expired or unnecessary medication.
