What is Esterified Estrogens?

Estrogen is a female sex hormone that is produced by the ovaries.

Esterified estrogens are a synthetic mixture of estrogens and they are used to treat symptoms of menopause including hot flashes, vaginal dryness, burning, or irritation.

It is also used to replace estrogen in the body in women who have ovarian failure or other conditions that cause for there to be a lack of natural estrogen produced in the body.

This drug is also sometimes used to treat symptoms of breast cancer in men and women, and symptoms of advanced prostate cancer in men.

How do I use Esterified Estrogens?

Esterified Estrogens come in tablet form to be taken orally. Consult with your doctor for instructions on how to use this drug to treat your condition. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully for using this drug.

What if I forget to use a dose of Esterified Estrogens?

Take your missed dose of Esterified Estrogens as soon as your remember to take it, unless it is almost time for the next dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dose schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

What happens if I overdose on Esterified Estrogens?

In case of overdose, call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) to find out what to do, or seek immediate medical attention.

  • you have ever had thyroid cancer or uterine cancer

  • you have ever had a blood clot caused by taking hormones

Do not use Esterified Estrogens if:

  • you are allergic to Esterified Estrogens or any other medications

How do I store Esterified Estrogens?

Store this medication tightly closed when not in use. Store it at room temperature and keep away from excess moisture and heat. Keep this medication out of reach of children and away from pets. Properly dispose of any expired or unnecessary medication.

Warnings

  • Esterified estrogens may increase your risk of developing a condition that may lead to uterine cancer. Contact your doctor right away if you have any unusual vaginal bleeding while using this medication.

  • Taking this medication can increase your risk of blood clots, stroke, or heart attack, especially if you have certain other conditions. Consult with your doctor for more information.
